Dr. Eric Tan, Post Doctoral Researcher

Research Fellow/NHMRC Early Career Research Fellow, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia

Dr Eric Tan is an NHMRC Early Career Research Fellow at the Centre for Mental Health at Swinburne University and an adjunct postdoctoral research fellow at St Vincent’s Hospital Psychiatry, Melbourne. He completed his PhD at Monash University in 2015 focusing on neurocognitive mechanisms and quality of life in schizophrenia patients with formal thought disorder. He has published a number of internationally significant papers focusing on how neurocognitive mechanisms underlie schizophrenia symptoms and neurocognitive impairment profiles in psychiatric disorders more generally. Today, his main research interests still lie in unravelling neurocognitive difficulties in chronic illnesses (both mental and physical) and how these contribute to patient functioning and life satisfaction. While his primary work is with psychiatric populations, he is currently leading a major neurocognitive and neuroimaging investigation into chronic kidney disease as part of a larger psychosocial intervention program at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.
