Dr. Ofra Fried is a Palliative Care specialist working at the Townsville University Hospital. Dr. Fried has worked in the area of Palliative Care for over 20 years, in rural, regional and remote settings. Her background prior to specialisation was in rural and remote primary care and public health. In all these settings she has experienced, cared for and written about the epidemic of renal failure amongst Indigenous Australians and the need for Supportive Renal Care. Having provided care for Indigenous people in urban and rural settings throughout her career, she has a special interest in providing appropriate cross-cultural clinical care. She wrote her M. Phil Thesis was on ‘Cross Cultural Issues in Terminal Care in Central Australia’. She is currently enrolled as a PhD candidate with JCU looking at a social history of Palliative Care.
