Dr. Basu Gopal, MBBS, MD, DM, FRCP(Lon), FASN

Dr Basu is a Professor of Nephrology and a Core Faculty Member for the Medical Education Unit, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. He migrated to Australia in 2015. Currently, he is a Senior Registrar at Central Northern Renal and Transplant Service, Royal Adelaide Hospital, and has a conjoint Clinical Senior Lecturer appointment with the University of Adelaide. His research interests include transplant immunology, ABO incompatible, paired kidney exchange, post-transplant infections, acute kidney injury and GFR measurement.

He is a member of the Young Nephrologist Committee and a member of APSN CME Committee,

ISN. He is also an honorary member of the Nephrology Society of Tanzania in recognition to his outstanding contribution in developing nephrology education & training in Tanzania.

He has won several awards including the distinguished educator award by the Transplantation Society (2013), Emerging Economies Young Investigator Award at the XXIII International Transplantation Congress of the Transplantation Society (2010); Dr. Muthoot M. George Memorial TANKER Foundation and Kerala Kidney Foundation Research Award (2009) for the most outstanding research done by a doctor in India in the field of Nephrology. He has 56 publications including original manuscripts, book chapters and editorials. He is a member of the Editorial Board for the Indian Clinical Update Handbook of Nephrology (Wiley-Blackwell) and the Open Urology Nephrology Journal. He has involved in the guidelines writ-up group for the Standard Treatment Guidelines in Nephrology (2011) for the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India.
