Ernesto L. Schiffrin, C.M., MD, PhD, FRSC, FRCPC, FACP, FAHA, is Physician-in-Chief at the Jewish General Hospital, Director of the Hypertension and Vascular Research Unit at the Lady Davis Institute, Distinguished James McGill Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Medicine, McGill University. Dr. Schiffrin’s research has addressed mechanisms and treatment of high blood pressure, from molecules and cells to humans; the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone, endothelin and natriuretic peptide systems, inflammation and immunity, and their role on function and vascular remodeling. He is author of more than 600 peer-reviewed publications, many book chapters and editor of 4 books on molecular and clinical aspects of vascular disease and hypertension. Dr. Schiffrin was President, Canadian Hypertension Society (1991–92); Chair, Hypertension Council, American Heart Association (2002–04); President, International Society of Hypertension (ISH) (2012–14); President, Hypertension Canada (2013-16). He was Associate Editor of Hypertension (2003-15), and is Editor-in-Chief, American Journal of Hypertension (2016-). Dr. Schiffrin has received many awards, including Fellow, Royal Society of Canada (2006); Irvine Page-Alva Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award, Hypertension Council, AHA (2007); Bjorn Folkow Award, European Society of Hypertension (2010); Member of the Order of Canada (2010); Excellence Award in Hypertension Research, AHA (2011); Robert Tigerstedt Award, American Society of Hypertension (2013); Distinguished Scientist Award, Canadian Cardiovascular Society (2013); Margolese National Prize on Heart Disorders (2016); Distinguished Fellow of ISH (2018), ISH Franz Volhard Award (2021.
